An individual has been acquitted by High Court today after he claimed in court that the police did not carry a search warrant when they found drugs in his office.
Hussain Sabah was sentenced to prison by Criminal Court after 2.5 kg of drugs were found in an office owned by him and another person in June 2011.
High Court said in its ruling today that Sabah had argued in court that the police did not have a court warrant when they entered his office.
High Court said that with few exceptions, police cannot enter people’s private premises without court warrants, and items found during searches conducted in the absence of warrants would be deemed to have been found unlawfully.
An individual named Mohamed Aswad was also charged in relation to the same crime. He was also acquitted following lack of sufficient evidence against him.
