Chinese tourist drowns in Fulhadhoo

A tourist from China has drowned while swimming at the island of Baa Fulhadhoo.

The police said that the deceased is a 30-year-old man, and that the incident was reported at around 10:00 a.m. yesterday.

The case is under police investigation.

Fulhadhoo Council President Mohamed Niyaz said that the couple arrived in the island last Monday, and that the man was swimming on the western side of the island when he drowned.

“There’s strong current in the area where he was swimming. When he started drowning, the woman ran into the island calling for help. People of the island took a boat out and and found him, but by then he was already dead,” he said.

Niyaz said that his death was confirmed by officials at the Health Centre in Goidhoo, and the woman and the body of the deceased were taken to Male’ by the police yesterday.

The couple were staying in a registered guesthouse in Fulhadhoo.
