Elections Commission has published the Parliamentary Election Regulation on its website.
Elections Commission is required under Article 22 of the Law on Parliamentary Elections, to compile and publish the Parliamentary Election Regulation.
The commission said in an announcement today that the Parliamentary Election Regulation announced on 23 February 2012 will be deemed void following the announcement of this Parliamentary Election Regulation 2014.
The Regulation announced today states that it is the responsibility of the Elections Commission to manage, monitor and organise all issues related to the Parliamentary Election, additional rounds of the Parliamentary Election, and Parliamentary By-elections.
The Regulation also states that if necessary, the Elections Commission can create a National Committee to provide counsel on election matters. The committee should be made up of officials of political parties, Human Rights Commission of the Maldives, Civil Service Commission, Maldives Police Service, Department of National Registration, Maldives Media Council, Maldives Broadcasting Commission, and NGOs.
