The ruling coalition has decided to give nine tickets to Maldives Development Alliance (MDA) to run for parliament seats in the upcoming Parliamentary Election.
MDA has called for applications to run for the nine seats, and decided to hold Primaries if several candidate express interest in running for one seat.
Primaries will not be held for Meedhoo and Kudahuvadhoo seats, which are already represented in the parliament by MDA.
MDA’s Basic Regulation states that MPs who have fulfilled one parliamentary term need not participate in a primary to run for the same seat for a second term.
MDA candidates will run for the seats of Dhaalu Kudahuvadhoo, Dhaalu Meedhoo, Gaafu Dhaalu Gadhdhoo, Haa Alifu Hoarafushi, Noonu Velidhoo, Noonu Manadhoo, Noonu Holhudhoo, Noonu Kendhikulhudhoo, and Maafannu Dhekunu in Male’.
Candidates are welcome to apply for all seats except for Meedhoo which is represented by MDA Leader Ahmed Siyam Mohamed, and Kudahuvadhoo which is represented by MDA Deputy Leader Ahmed Amir.
Candidates of the government coalition will run for all 85 seats in the Parliamentary Election scheduled for March 2014, including 49 seats by Progressive Party of Maldives (PPM) and 28 seats by Jumhooree Party (JP).
