EC to place 468 ballot boxes for LCE

Elections Commission (EC) has said that 468 ballot boxes will be placed for the Local Council Election (LCE), scheduled for 18 January.

EC’s Secretary General Asim Abdul Sattary told Sun today that due to an increase in re-registration of voters, the commission has increased the previous number of 466 to 468 boxes.

“We had earlier decided to place 466 ballot boxes for the Local Council Election, to be held on 18th this month. But the number of people who registered to vote in certain areas has increased, so we have added two more boxes. So 468 boxes will be placed during the council election,” Asim said.

Two additional boxes in Male' for Thaa and Addu atoll were decided after the number of re-registered voters exceeded 1,250 for each atoll. The Thaa Atoll box will be place in Ameeniyya School, and the Addu Atoll box in Majeediyya School, the commission said in an announcement on Wednesday.

EC has decided to omit 16 locations that saw boxes placed during the Presidential election, including New Delhi, Singapore, London, Gaafu Dhaalu Koodoo and 12 resorts.
