Maldives, China hold diplomatic talks on enhancing cooperation

Maldives and China have held discussions on ways of further enhancing cooperation between the two countries.

Led by the Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Fathimath Inaya and Mr. Liu Zhenmin, Vice Minister of Foreign Affairs of the People’s Republic of China, head of the Chinese delegation, the discussions were held during the Fifth Round of Diplomatic Consultations at the Maldives Ministry of Foreign Affairs today.

Foreign Ministry stated that during the consultations, Deputy Minister Inaya noted the close historical relations between the Maldives and China and expressed appreciation to the Chinese for the continued support to the Maldives government.

The Vice Foreign Minister of the People’s Republic of China highlighted the importance of continuing the diplomatic consultations between the two countries and re-assured that China will continue to assist the Maldives in its development efforts.

Discussions focused on enhancing cooperation in areas including tourism promotion, cultural exchanges, women and youth development, trade and investment, and human resource development, said the Foreign Ministry.

The meeting was attended by senior staff of Maldives Ministry of Foreign Affairs, senior officials of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of China, and senior staff of the Embassy of China in the Maldives.
