Madivaru and Felivaru declared uninhabited islands

It has been declared by presidential decree, under Article 8 of the Constitution and the authority of the President stated in the Decentralisation Act, that Lhaviyani Madivaru and Lhaviyani Felivaru are uninhabited islands.

Madivaru and Felivaru were declared inhabited islands by the government of former President Mohamed Nasheed but to this day, the two islands have remained uninhabited.

Madivaru is used by Maldives National Defence Force (MNDF) for conducting training programs, while the state’s fish canning factory is located in Felivaru.
