Regulation restricts tourist hotels to islands with sewerage

Authorities have stated that local tourist hotels can only be established in islands with basic facilities including a hospital, a proper sewerage system, a police station and 24-hour fresh water and electricity services.

The criteria were defined in the Article 18 (a) of the regulation on the development and administration of tourist hotels. The regulation also restricts the development of tourist hotels to lands specifically announced and leased for the purpose by the Ministry of Tourism, or to private property.

The regulation also allows Tourism Ministry and authorities designated by the ministry to enter, check and inspect the city hotels for compliance with the regulations as they see fit.
