Regulation for broadcasting in Maldives has been completed and published today.
The announcement was made at a ceremony held today at Seneco Hall of Voice of Maldives by the Broadcasting Commission, to present the regulation to broadcasters.
The regulation, as well as the bid documents to be submitted to obtain the terrestrial frequency, were presented by Commission President Badru Naseer to senior officials of all TV and some radio stations.
Badru said that three TV and four radio terrestrial frequencies will be issued under the regulation published today. These will be accorded to those who win the bid, and even those who have applied for them previously must now submit the bid documents.
The bid documents will be available at the Broadcast Commission from Sunday onwards.
Issuing broadcast license will also recommence as a result of the completion of the broadcast regulation.
The broadcast regulation was set up and completed after the Commission held discussions with almost all broadcasting media in Maldives. The regulation comes into force today.
Criteria to be looked at when evaluating the proposals for obtaining frequency include investments made, work conducted and expansion speed of media groups. Importance will also be given to the proposal and proposed price.
The frequencies issued prior to the regulation will be valid for the previously specified duration.
