Maldives Inland Revenue Authority (MIRA) has said that the names of those groups which have failed to pay goods and services tax (GST) will be announced on 29 March.
MIRA said that the list of names will be made public in their office as well as on their website.
More than 600 parties failed to meet the deadline for the first payment of GST which was 29 January. An official from MIRA said that checks are being made to ascertain if they still owe GST, and the groups are being reminded of the payment before the list is made public on 29 March.
“Some parties, even though they are registered, may not be trading anymore. We are trying to find out these things by calling them and sending emails. We are also reminding them to pay GST. We are verifying the list before making it public,” the official said.
MIRA said that the GST must now be paid inclusive of fine. Names of those who make the payment now will be removed from the list.
“We are updating the list,” the official said.
MIRA said that the company names, their owners and type of business of those with pending GST payments will be made public.
