MIRA launches campaign to collect information on tax evaders

Country’s chief tax authority, Maldives Inland Revenue Authority (MIRA) has started a new whistleblowing campaign to seek tax evaders by urging the public to provide the authority with information on offenders.

The authority has established an online portal where information can be submitted anonymously by filling out a form to report suspected tax offences.

MIRA has also urged the public to provide details of those who assist tax evaders and has assured that information received by the authority will be confidential, unless otherwise obliged by Maldivian Law.

Under Maldivian tax laws, it is an offence to intentionally withhold taxes or facilitate a taxpayer to evade tax payable under a Taxation Act.
