Individual found dead near Mundoo harbour

A 19-year-old individual who was found on the ground near Laamu Mundoo harbour has been confirmed dead.

Police said a 19-year-old and a 17-year-old were found on the ground near the island’s harbour area soon after dusk last night. They said the 19-year-old was pronounced dead by the hospital and that the 17-year-old is receiving treatment.

Police did not reveal further details.

President of Mundoo island council Ibrahim Naeem said that the two young individuals arrived in Mundoo yesterday with their families and that both of them had migrated from Mundoo, the 19-year-old to Laamu Funadhoo and the 17 year old to Laamu Gan.

A source from Funadhoo said the 19 year old was taken to Funadhoo Hospital, where the doctors had announced that he had died before he reached the hospital. The 17 year old was taken to Gan Regional Hospital and placed in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU), where he is still being treated.

A source from Mundoo said the two individuals passed out after consuming what is believed to be self-brewed alcohol.
