HPA issues dengue alert

Health Protection Agency (HPA) has issued a health alert over a recent increase in dengue fever reports in the country.

The agency called for mosquito control and dengue protection programs to be organized at personal and council levels, in the atolls.

HPA advised the public to treat and remove any uncovered places that might accumulate and stagnate water that would allow breeding of mosquitos. Individuals can also increase the use of mosquito repellent, wear garments that provide better covering and give extra mind to hygiene, the agency said.

HPA said that a hike in viral colds has also been noticed and to mitigate the cases progressing to severe dengue through negligence, advised the public to seek a doctor if fever persists for more than three days.
