Department of Immigration and Emigration has started a special program to allow undocumented foreign workers to return to their home countries.
Speaking of the program today, Deputy CEO of Immigration Department Abdulla Munaz said that a special post has bee set up in Dharumavantha School for workers seeking to leave the country voluntarily. Open between 9:00 a.m. and 5:00 p.m. on working days, the post will facilitate the workers to return to their home countries, Munaz said.
“Documentation for their departure will be processed once they approach Dharumavantha School post. When the travel arrangements are made, the foreigner has to buy his own air ticket,” Munaz said.
He said the program will not discriminate between foreigners and that a person living under any circumstance is welcome to approach the post.
Munaz said that individuals sent back under this program can return to Maldives after 6 months, but the persons who do not seek this program will be barred from entering the Maldives, once they are deported.
