Bleak support for LCE re-registration, says EC

Elections Commission has said that the number of voters seeking to re-register for the Local Council Election (LCE), set for 18 January, is relatively less so far.

The commission said they received just 94 re-registration forms within the past two days, which includes 64 forms on Thursday and 30 forms on Friday.

EC announced on Wednesday that re-registration forms will be accepted from 19 December to 28 December between 9:00 a.m. and 3:00 p.m. on weekdays and Saturdays and between 2:30 p.m. and 5:00 p.m. on Fridays.

“Re-registration for the council election is receiving cold support. It is EC’s sincere request to not wait until the last minute, to get re-registered as soon as possible,” Asim said.

Re-registration forms are available from the commission’s website, commission’s main office, all island council offices and the city council office in Addu, said EC.

Re-registration is required for those who wish to vote from a location other than their permanent address. The commission also said that it will accept a maximum of 10 forms for each token number.
