CARDIFF, Wales (AP) — Peter Whittingham's second-half header gave Cardiff a 1-0 win over West Bromwich Albion on Saturday in an English Premier League match that proved to be Steve Clarke's last in charge of the struggling visitors.
Clarke was fired hours after the final whistle following this fourth straight league defeat for West Brom, which was sealed by Whittingham's fine finish from Craig Noone's cross in the 65th minute.
It left West Brom in 16th place — two points and two spots above the bottom three.
Cardiff deserved the three points, which opened up a little breathing space to the bottom three for Malky Mackay's side.
Gareth McAuley and Shane Long failed to convert West Brom's best chances, while the latter also had a penalty appeal turned down after a push by Ben Turner.
