Elections Commission has announced that former Speaker of Parliament Mohamed Shihab has been elected as Male’ City Maafannu-Uthuru Councillor, as no applications were submitted for this post by any other candidate.
The Elections Commission said that as per Article 24 of the Local Council Election Act, as no other candidate has expressed interest to contest for this post, Mohamed Shihab has been elected as Male’ City Maafannu-Uthuru Councillor for the term starting on 25 February 2014.
Shihab contested on Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP) ticket.
The Local Council Election has been set for 18 January 2014.
Shihab held the posts of Home Minister and Finance Minister in former President Mohamed Nasheed’s government.
