Thinadhoo Police Station arson attack hearing cancelled

Today’s hearing for the case against four suspects following the arson attack on Gaafu Dhaalu Thinadhoo Police Station has been cancelled, due to failure by one suspect to be present in court.

An official of Juvenile Court told Sun Online that the final hearing on this case was scheduled for 2.00 p.m. today, and that court summonses were delivered to all suspects.

“Juvenile Court delivered the summonses to all suspects, but one suspect did not appear in court. So the hearing scheduled for today has been cancelled,” he said.

He said that the hearing has been re-scheduled to 10.00 a.m. on 22 December, and as previously announced, the State will be given the opportunity to present photos and video footage at this hearing.

The four minors have been charged with terrorism, for attacking the police officers at Thinadhoo Police Station, and causing damage the Police Station building and property, between 4.30 p.m. and 8.30 p.m. on 8 February 2012.

During the unrest on 8 February 2012, a group of people also set fire to the Police Station’s vehicles, Thinadhoo Court, and the Gaafu Dhaalu Atoll Council Office located in Thinadhoo.
