The Japanese Ambassador to the Maldives Nobuhito Hobo has made a courtesy call on President Dr Mohamed Waheed.
At the meeting held this morning at the President’s Office, President Waheed briefed the Ambassador on the current political situation in the Maldives. The President said that the government is in dialogue with all parties to resolve the current challenges. Pointing out that he is open to an early election, the President said that an early election cannot be held without first amending the Constitution.
The President noted the first anniversary of the earthquake and tsunami that hit Japan last year and expressed support and admiration for the remarkable speed of recovery in Japan. He said that the world could learn many lessons in disaster management from Japan.
Ambassador Hobo welcomed the President’s efforts to resolve the current political challenges and stressed the importance of dialogue.
