MNDF begins search for man lost at sea near Addu

Maldives National Defence Force (MNDF) has started searching for a man who fell from a fishing boat near Addu atoll.

MNDF said the man, who has been identified as 31-year-old Ali Mumthaz from Maradhoo-Feydhoo, Addu City, fell from the fishing boat named Sea Bird approximately 22 nautical miles south-east of Shangrila resort around 7:50 a.m. this morning.

MNDF reports that divers from southern area coast guard squadron and the coast guard air wing helicopter are searching for the missing person.

MNDF said they have been unable to clarify details of the individual, as they are having difficulties in contacting the fishing boat.
