Parliament committee continues review of cabinet for approval

Parliament Committee on Oversight of the Government started review of all 15 members of President Abdulla Yameen’s cabinet, prior to presenting them to the parliament floor for approval.

Names of the last four appointments - submitted for parliament on 21 November - were forwarded to the committee today. The members are; Minister of Education Dr Aishath Shiham, Minister of Health and Gender Dr Maryam Shakeela, Minister of Youth and Sports Mohamed Maleeh Jamal, and Attorney General Mohamed Anil.

The remaining 11 names under review are; Minister of Finance and Treasury Abdulla Jihad, Minister of Defence and National Security Colonel (Rtd) Mohamed Nazim, Minister of Tourism Ahmed Adheeb, Minister of Foreign Affairs Dhunya Maumoon, Minister of Transport and Communication Ameen Ibrahim, Minister of Islamic Affairs Dr Mohamed Shaheem Ali Saeed, Minister of Home Affairs Umar Naseer, Minister of Fisheries and Agriculture Dr Mohamed Shainee, Minister of Economic Development Mohamed Saeed, Minister of Housing and Infrastructure Dr Mohamed Muizzu, and Minister of Environment and Energy Thoriq Ibrahim.

Speaker of the Parliament Abdulla Shahid has notified the Government Oversight Committee to complete its assessment before 23 December. Committee chair MP Ali Waheed said the debate will begin on 15 December, after information is collected from relevant institutions.
