Minister of Defence and National Security Colonel (Rtd) Mohamed Nazim has been elected the President of the Local Government Board. Nazim sits in the Local Government Board as the member appointed by the President.
Nazim was elected with unanimous vote at the first meeting of the Local Government Board held at 10:00 a.m. this morning. A president’s appointee to the board has held the board’s chair since its assembly in 2011.
The Local Government Board heads the State's primary local council oversight body, the Local Government Authority (LGA).
Article 62 (a) of the Decentralization Act states that an appointed minister by the president is accountable to the Parliament, on behalf of the Local Government Authority.
