Progressive Party of Maldives (PPM) has called for application of candidates, including members of coalition parties, interested in running on the party’s ticket for the upcoming local council elections.
Speaking at a press conference on Wednesday night, PPM Election Committee Member Ali Rasheed said that the party will contest for 533 Island Council seats, 74 Atoll Council seats, and 10 City Council seats.
In total, there are 975 Island Council seats, 120 Atoll Council seats, and 11 City Council seats.
Ali Rasheed said that members who wish to contest on the party’s ticket can submit their applications before 31 December, and that the applicants must be PPM members registered with the party before 30 September.
He said that MVR 100 should be paid with the application form. Also, signatures of 30 people must be submitted along with the form if the constituency has more than 100 PPM members, and signatures of 20 people must be submitted if the constituency has 50 to 99 PPM members, said Ali Rasheed.
PPM has decided to hold primaries on 5 December.
