President Abdulla Yameen has decided to forego over MVR 200,000 in compensation from the State over his 13-day illegal detention in Aarah during former president Mohamed Nasheed’s presidency in 2010.
President Yameen’s legal team issued a statement today saying that President has informed the Attorney General’s Office and the Finance Ministry of his intention to forego the amount of MVR 244.031.25 that the Civil Court has ordered the State to pay in compensation for his illegal detention in July 2010.
President Yameen has also recalled the defamation case against Hulhumeedhoo MP Ilyas Labeeb.
The President has decided to withdraw the defamation case because he did not wish to take up personal charges against the State or any individual citizen while in office, read the statement by President Yameen's legal team.
