MP Mausoom takes up GM post at Sun Island Resort

Kelaa MP Dr Abdulla Mausoom has been appointed the General Manager of Sun Island Resort and Spa, a luxury resort owned by business tycoon and Jumhoory Party leader Gasim Ibrahim and one of the largest resorts in the country.

Dr Mausooms said he has assumed the General Manager (GM) position and started work yesterday. With parliamentary election up ahead to be held in March next year, Dr Mausoom said he has not decided whether he will run for re-election.

“Tourism has always been very close at heart. I’ve taken over as the resort’s General Manager yesterday,” Dr Mausoom said.

Dr Mausoom said he decided to move back to the tourism industry to encourage the younger generation to get involved in the industry.

Sun Island Resort’s General Manager post became vacant when Mohamed Saeed resigned to take the Minister of Economic Development portfolio in President Abdulla’s new government.

Dr Mausoom has a in Ph.D. in Sustainable Tourism Development from the University of Birmingham, UK, and has held senior management posts in a number of tourism related companies in the Maldives.
