Kaashidhoo MP Abdulla Jabir has denied the charges pressed against him by the State regarding using alcohol.
The charges against Jabir state that Jabir was at Haa Dhaalu Hondaidhoo with a group of people on 16 November 2012, and following checks, the police discovered alcohol on the island.
The State has claimed that the police found Jabir near a hut resembling a bar on the northern side of the island holding a glass containing a liquid suspected to be alcohol. The glass was seized and tests conducted on its contents revealed that the liquid contained alcohol, claimed the State.
After Jabir denied the claims, the State presented eleven police officers who went to the island where the incident took place, prepared to testify against Jabir.
Today’s hearing was adjourned after the judge gave Jabir three days to prepare his defence statement.
