Salary of the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the Maldives Ports Limited (MPL), the chief operates all ports in the country, has been reduced to MVR 62,000 per month.
Prior to the reduction, the company's chief earned MVR 132,000 per month.
MPL said today that the company’s board of directors made the decision in support of president Abdulla Yameen’s new policy to reduce government expenditure.
The salary was incremented to MVR 132,000 last year during CEO Mahudhy Imad’s tenure. He was transferred to the Finance Ministry as a Deputy Minister soon after the Anti-Corruption Commission launched an investigation into the increase.
Since then, the MPL CEO post has been held by Mohamed Latheef, who was dismissed by President Abdulla Yameen on Tuesday.
The CEO post of the State’s chief ports operator currently remains vacant.
