Food and Drug Authority bans OxyELITE Pro food supplement

Maldives Food and Drug Authority (MFDA) has issued a countrywide ban on two dietary supplements, OxyELITE Pro and VERSA-1 tablets.

The authority said the dietary food supplements have been linked to a significant number of Hepatitis cases. They said the World Health Organization (WHO) has also issued a warning against these supplements and that U.S. agencies, Centre for Disease Control and Food and Drug Administration are currently researching the tablets.

MFDA said the supplements contain Aegeline, an ingredient which lacks history of use or other evidence of safety. The Authority advised the public to refrain from consuming both supplement until research on the ingredient is complete and a conclusion is arrived by the authorities.

The U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has also stated that OxyELITE Pro dietary supplement products have been linked to liver illnesses.
