Officials of Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP) have met with Leader of Jumhooree Party (JP) Gasim Ibrahim, and invited him to support MDP in the second round of the presidential election.
The meeting took place at M. Maafannu Villa tonight. It lasted about two hours and was attended by, in addition to Gasim, Parliament Speaker Abdulla Shahid and Hinnavaru MP Ibrahim Mohamed Solih.
Speaking to reporters after the meeting Gasim said that at the moment, he does not support any group.
“The party’s decision remains unchanged. But whether to support a candidate in my personal capacity at the last minute – I haven’t decided,” he said.
Gasim said that MDP is not his enemy.
Following Gasim’s remarks, Ibrahim Mohamed Solih said that he hopes that Gasim will decide to support MDP.
Presidential candidate of Progressive Party of Maldives (PPM) Abdulla Yameen also met with Gasim on Saturday night.
