Adhaalath Party has said that discussions regarding the number of government posts that will be given to the party, are less important than winning the presidential election.
Adhaalath Party met with the coalition of Progressive Party of Maldives (PPM) and Maldives Development Alliance (MDA) at Nasandhura Palace Hotel last night.
Speaking at a press conference today organised by the three parties, Chief Spokesperson of Adhaalath Party Ali Zahir said that since not much time is left before the election takes place, Adhaalath Party will focus on participating in PPM’s campaign activities rather than negotiations.
“The discussions were focused on organising campaign activities, and other efforts to ensure that we win the election. Other topics, such as forming coalitions and dividing things up and deciding who gets what – these things were not discussed at all,” he said.
Vice President of Adhaalath Party Dr Mauroof Hussain said that the people have been waiting impatiently for Adhaalath Party and PPM to work together.
“People have been waiting impatiently for this day, because of Nasheed’s secular policies. People have been waiting for this day to save the country from his activities,” he said.
PPM’s Ahmed Nihan urged Maldivians to follow Adhaalath Party’s example and join PPM, and said that the agreements between PPM and Adhaalath Party were made for the sake of the nation and religion, and do not concern money or other worldly things.
PPM Council Member Mohamed Shareef said that if PPM wins the election on Saturday, discussions regarding forming a coalition government will be held with the people who backed the party.
