Commissioner of Police Abdulla Riyaz has reminded police officers that they will be held accountable for their actions, and advised them to fully understand the applicable laws and regulations when carrying out their duties.
In an interview given to Police Media today, Riyaz said that the majority of Maldivian citizens obey the law despite their political differences, and that this was evident during the election yesterday.
He said that the Elections Commission commended the conduct of the police in maintaining security during the first round of the election held yesterday, and assured that the police will cooperate and provide assistance also for the second round.
Riyaz said that he closely monitored the efforts by the police to provide security during the election, and thanked the Operation Commander and all police officers for their work.
He also congratulated on behalf of Maldives Police Service, the two candidates who won the first round of the presidential election.
