Elections Commission has said that since no candidate received above 51 percent of votes in the first round of the presidential election held today, as previously announced, a run-off will be held tomorrow.
Secretary General of Elections Commission Asim Abdul Sattar told Sun Online that the commission’s decision to hold the run-off tomorrow remains unchanged.
Asim said that however, Progressive Party of Maldives (PPM) has not finished signing all the voters’ lists.
Speaking at a press conference earlier, Elections Commission Member Ali Mohamed Manik said that PPM has assured in a letter sent to the commission, that they will sign the voters’ lists that have been changed.
President of Elections Commission Fuad Thaufeeg told Sun Online today that printing of ballot papers for the second round has been completed, and that they will be transported to all necessary locations nationwide tonight.
He said that officials have also departed to overseas ballot stations with the ballot papers.
Regarding the transport of voters’ lists to which changes have been made, Fuad said that they will be sent by email once signing by party representatives is completed.
He said that this has been communicated to the candidates and their representatives, and that they have agreed to this.
A total of 239,153 people are eligible to vote in the second round of the presidential election.
