Indian government to replace Police vehicles destroyed on 8 February

Indian government has decided to provide Maldives with replacements for the Police vehicles destroyed during the MDP protest on 8 February.

Home Ministry said that India has promised 52 vehicles as replacement for those destroyed on 8 February. 36 vehicles were burnt and destroyed, while 16 others were damaged.

Most serious damage was caused to Addu Police Stations and Courts. Considerable damage was caused to buildings in Gdh. Atoll as well.

China has also decided to give about US$19 million in free aid to reconstruct the buildings damaged on 8 February.

Home Ministry estimates that the damage caused on 8 February amounts to Rf 183 million. Damage worth Rf 112 million was inflicted on Police stations, Courts suffered losses worth Rf 50 million, and island councils suffered losses worth Rf 17 million.
