The police have departed with ballot papers, for the first round of the presidential election scheduled for Saturday, 9 November, to all local polling stations except those in Kaafu Atoll.

The police said that the papers are being transported since 4:00 p.m. today, as per the instructions of the Elections Commission.

Police Speedboat Number 17 has departed to Haa Alifu, Haa Dhaalu, Shaviyani, and Lhaviyani Atolls; Police Speedboat Number 19 has departed to Vaavu, Meemu, Thaa, Laamu, Gaafu Alifu, Gaafu Dhaalu, Gnaviyani, and Seenu Atolls; and Police Speedboat Number 20 has departed to Faafu, Dhaalu, Alifu Alifu, and Alifu Dhaalu Atolls, said the police.

The speedboats carrying ballot papers to islands in Kaafu Atoll and resorts will depart tomorrow.

Police Security Officers will depart with the ballot papers to Singapore and Malaysia at 8:45 p.m. tonight, and tomorrow to New Delhi and Trivandrum.

The transport of ballot papers to overseas and atoll polling stations have been delayed over a lag in signing of voters’ lists by presidential candidates.
