600 fingerprints can be verified every hour: Police

The police have said that it is now possible to verify 600 fingerprints forms per hour.

The police said in a statement issued tonight that the Forensic Department of the Maldives Police Service is working on verifying the fingerprints on the re-registration forms submitted by the Department of National Registration (DNR), and that verification has been completed of more than 15,000 fingerprints.

The police said that following the decision by the Elections Commission to verify the fingerprints on re-registration forms, 40,000 re-registration forms were forwarded to the police via DNR.

The police said that more than 9,000 forms have been returned after completion of fingerprint verification, out of which 294 forms were rejected.

Elections Commission, however, has said that the individuals who submitted the rejected forms will also be allowed to vote.
