MDP has decided that their Kaashidhoo area President Ahmed Haleem (Dhonbilaiy) will represent MDP in the Kaashidhoo by-election next month.

MDP Spokesperson Imthiyaz Fahmee said that the decision was made without holding a primary election as ‘Dhonbilaiy’ Ahmed Haleem was the only MDP member who requested to run for this seat.

He said that Dhonbilaiy expressed interest for this ticket with the support of 10% of MDP members in Kaashidhoo area.

The opportunity to request for MDP’s ticket in the Kaashidhoo by-election was open until last Monday.

PPM member and former President Gayoom’s lawyer Mohamed Waheed Ibrahim (Waddey), and Jumhooree Party’s Deputy Leader Abdulla Jabir have also expressed interest to contest for this seat. The Kaashidhoo by-election will he held on 14 April.
