Extension of MP Azim

The extension by Criminal Court of the detention period of former Medhu-Henveiru MP Ali Azim by 15 days has been appealed in High Court.

Azim’s lawyer Abdulla Shair told Sun Online today that the appeal case was filed today, and that the case has been accepted by High Court.

Azim was arrested yesterday when he entered the Parliament Secretariat during a parliament session, after the Supreme Court had declared him disqualified as an MP.

Maldives National Defence Force (MNDF), after arresting Azim, handed him over the police for investigation.

The police said that Azim has been accused of entering the parliament grounds and attacking MNDF officers, disobeying MNDF officers, and attempting to enter the parliament hall by force.
