Criminal Court court has extended the detention period of disqualified MP Ali Azim’s detention by 15 days.
Ali Azim was arrested by the Maldives National Defence Force (MNDF) while attempting to enter and join the parliament session on Saturday. He was handed over to the police with allegations of assaulting parliament security personnel.
Supreme Court on Friday ruled Medhu-Henveiru MP Ali Azim and Alifushi MP Mohamed Nashiz are no longer qualified as members of the parliament, as they have a decreed debt not being paid according to a court judgment.
Police said Ali Azim is being accused of entering the parliament compound, assaulting military personnel, disobeying military personnel and trying to force his way into the parliament without proper authority.
