Parliament to hold sitting on Saturday

Parliament has decided to hold a sitting on Saturday.

Secretary General of the Parliament Ahmed Mohamed told Sun today that the session was scheduled to address special issues highlighted in a letter sent by the President to the Speaker of the Parliament.

The letter by President Waheed asks the parliament to address the legal implications of a constitutional void that might arise if the country fails to elect a new president by the end of the presidential term on 11 November.

Parliament Committee on Independent Institutions today decided to summon the Supreme Court bench, over the pretext to conduct a study undertaken by the parliament, and also to discuss the legal issues that might arise if the country fails to elect a president by 11 November.
