EC announces calendar showing election timeframes

Elections Commission has announced the timeframes allowed for various tasks before the election on 9 November.

According to the timeframe, activities scheduled for today include sending the voters’ list to the candidates, calling for complaints regarding the voters’ list, starting to respond to complaints, establishing a complaints system, and determining the locations and number of ballot boxes.

Tasks scheduled for tomorrow include completing responding to complaints regarding voters’ list, and revising voters’ list.

On Thursday, the Elections Commission will announce the final voters’ list and obtain and compile the list of observers, monitors and candidates’ agents.

Friday will be the only day allowed for re-registration.

On Saturday, the commission will allow re-submission of rejected forms, and present the final list of officials to the candidates.

On Sunday the commission will sign the agreement regarding trips to the atolls with Maldives National Defence Force (MNDF).

Cards for observers, monitors and candidates will be issued on Monday.

On Thursday, the commission will finalise the voters’ list.

The public and political parties can file complaints regarding the final voters’ list on Friday, 1 November.

The final day for filing complaints is 2 November, and the commission will also consider the complaints and finalise the voters’ list on this day.

The commission will send the re-registration forms to Department of National Registration (DNR) for fingerprint verification on 3 November.

On 4 November, the commission will make amendments to the final voters’ list following complaints, and hand over the Final Eligible Figures to the relevant section of the commission.

The final voters’ list will be sent to the candidates on 5 November.

The candidates and their agents should complete signing the list by 7 November.
