Supreme Court orders not to obstruct media from covering election

Supreme Court has issued an order directing all parties to refrain from obstructing the media and elections observers to use all necessary equipment to carry out their professional duties inside ballot stations, according the rules and regulations, on election day.

The order follows concerns by media groups over a statement by the Elections Commission, citing the ruling and guidelines issued by the Supreme Court annulling the first round of the presidential election, that the commission would not allow the media to have on their persons, cameras or mobile phones while near the ballot stations on election day.

The order was issued signed by Chief Justice Ahmed Faiz Hussain today, reasoning that the purpose of the Supreme Court guidelines were not to obstruct media and election observer groups to be active inside the ballot stations, according the rules and regulations of the State.
