A campaign post of the religiously conservative Adhaalath Party in Haa Dhaalu Makunudhoo was torched early morning on Wednesday.
Deputy chief of the island’s party wing Ali Nasheed told Sun today that the fire was set to the campaign post’s storeroom, sometime after 3 a.m. late last night. Although there were no casualties, everything inside the storeroom was damaged, he said.
“Everything inside the room's storage area , everything was completely burnt. A TV, an amp (amplifier), about 50 chairs, everything, along with all the documents,” he said.
Ali Nasheed said that the fire was extinguished around 4:30 a.m., through a joint effort by island locals and military officers.
Police confirmed the incident and said that they have received a report of a fire in a campaign post in Haa Dhaalu Makunudhoo, but said that no arrests have yet been made.
