Former president Mohamed Nasheed has said that the government should compensate Raajje TV for the arson attack on the TV station that took place early Monday morning.
Speaking on Raajje TV today, Nasheed called on President Dr Mohamed Waheed Hassan Manik to provide compensation to the TV channel, and other spaces in the building that were damaged during the attack.
“This studio and other parties in this building should be compensated. I sincerely ask Dr Waheed and Jihad (Minister of Finance and Treasury) to recompense the losses to Raajje TV, the computer shop downstairs, and the owner or this building,” the former president said.
Describing the attack as a cowardly act, Nasheed said that although the video footage of the attack shows a group of youngsters, he is certain that there were more people behind the planning of the attack.
He said that the freedom of expression must be protected, even by placing a police officer next to every single journalist.
