Court extends detention for nine individuals arrested for creating unrest during protest

Detention has been extended by the court for nine out of the twelve people arrested during the protest by Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP) in Male’ on Saturday night.

The nine people are Ibrahim Abdul Rahman, 29, Hashim Mohamed, 35, Ismail Mufeed, 46, Ahmed Mohamed, 42, Abdul Haadhee, 57, son-in-law of MP Reeko Moosa Manik, Abdulla Javid, 36, Shahid Ali, 35, Mohamed Niyaz, 43, and Mohamed Shirar, 34.

Ibrahim Abdul Rahman has been transferred to house arrest; detention periods have been extended by 10 days for Hashim Mohamed, Ismail Mufeed, Ahmed Mohamed, Abdul Haadhee, Abdulla Javid, Mohamed Niyaz and Mohamed Shirar; and detention periods have been extended by 15 days for Shahid Ali.

The people released by the court are Mohamed Ibrahim, 53, Mohamed Zahir, 39, and Ibrahim Shaz, 32.
