Court gives seven days of detention for former Education Minister Shifa Mohamed

The court has given a detention period of seven days of former Education Minister Shifa Mohamed, who was arrested during a protest by Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP) near FDI Station on Fareedhee Magu yesterday.

The police said that Shifa was arrested for disobeying police orders and obstructing police duties.

The police said that 49 people have been arrested so far at the series of protests by MDP.

Out of them, 20 remain under arrest following detention period extensions by the court.

The court has also given a detention period of seven days for Medhu-Henveiru MP Ali Azim, who was arrested on Monday.
