Progressive Party of Maldives (PPM) has said that the there is legal grounds to take actions against the Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP) for advocating to force a change of government and has called for legal action against the party.
Speaking to the press in PPM’s main campaign station in Nasandhura Palace Hotel today, the party’s vice president Abdul Raheem Abdulla said that MDP has called for violence in the country, including threats to judges and their families in an attempt to neutralize the judiciary's authority.
Such statements should be duly investigated and addressed, Abdul Raheem said.
“Today, I believe that there is room for legal action against MDP’s actions and legal action should be taken,” Abdul Raheem said.
The PPM vice president also announced a protest tonight, calling for the courts to expedite the cases.
The protest, due to start from Artificial Beach, will call for the court to expedite the cases against former president and MDP presidential candidate Mohamed Nasheed and also for a quick verdict on JP’s election case in Supreme Court, upon an injunction of which the second round of the election has been postponed.
