A car and a motorcycle were torched in Male’ late last night.
The car was set on fire while parked inside garage in Madhoshi Goalhi and that motorcycle was parked near the military base, Kalhuthukkala Koshi.
Police revealed that the motorcycle fire was put out soon after it was set, causing little damage to the vehicle. However, the car had sustained considerable damage to the rear by the time it was extinguished by people who lived in the house that contained the garage.
No arrests have been made regarding the attacks. Police said they are investigating the incidents.
Arson attacks and acts of vandalism have been increasing in the capital since the Supreme Court’s order to postpone the second round of presidential elections. Fire incidents were seen near Alimas Carnival last Friday and Sunday, and another on Monday when a taxi parked near Imaaduddeen School was torched. A car owned by Mohamed Shahid, brother of the Speaker of the Parliament Abdulla Shahid, was also set on fire early Tuesday morning.
A speedboat belonging to an activist of the Progressive Party of Maldives (PPM) in Gaafu Dhaalu was also torched early Friday morning.
