HRCM calls for election to be held within time frame required by constitution

Human Rights Commission of the Maldives (HRCM) has called on Supreme Court and institutions of the State to ensure that the elections are held within the time frames stipulated in the Constitution.

In a statement published today, the State’s chief human rights body called on all parties to expedite efforts to uphold the constitution and work to prevent unrest in the country.

HRCM also called on the Elections Commission to address the irregularities in the voters’ list, brought forth in light of the first round of polls, before proceeding to the second round.

The Commission has called on all parties to refrain from making antagonistic and deceiving statements and to desist issuing death threats and intimidation, especially at a time of heightened apprehension in the country country.
