MDP protests: Six released with orders not to participate in gatherings for two months

The court has released six people arrested in Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP) protests in Male’ on Saturday night, after ordering them not to participate in street gatherings for the next two months.

MDP announced continued of protests until the Supreme Court decides on the case contesting the results of the first round of the election, and calling for the second round of elections to be held without delay.

Police revealed that they have arrested 15 individuals from the protests between 23rd September and last night (28th September).

From last night's gatherings, one individual was released with a court order to not participate street gatherings from 9:00 p.m. to 9:00 a.m. the following day, for period of two monthsm while the another five people were released with conditions to not participate in gatherings between 8:00 p.m. and 8:00 a.m., also for the next two months.

Police said that all 15 people were arrested for disobeying police orders and instigating assaults, of which, 3 individuals were released without condition.

A total of seven people were arrested from MDP’s last night, including one minor.
