Maldives Ministry of Foreign Affairs has summoned the Indian High Commissioner to the Maldives Rajeev Shahare in a show of discontent over his meeting with the Elections Commission earlier on Friday.
An official from the Maldives Foreign Ministry said that senior officials met with the Indian High Commissioner at 7:00 p.m.
“We had a meeting with the Indian High Commissioner last night, but we cannot reveal details of the meeting,” the official said.
Earlier on Friday, Foreign Ministry condemned the Indian High Commissioner’s meeting with the Elections Commission, and called on all foreign parties to refrain from interfering with internal matters of the country.
Attempts to investigate the motive behind High Commissioner Shahare’s meeting with the EC has been unsuccessful, as High Commissioner Shahare and Deputy High Commissioner Sanjay Rana had both disconnected the call when asked, over the telephone.
